When combined with an infinitive verb, चाहिए means “should, ought”:

Formula:	Dative +	Infinitive Verb +	चाहिए
	तुमको	नाचना	चाहिये।
	[To] You	[to] dance	should.

मुझे जाना चाहिए ।	I should go.
तुमको सुनना चाहिए ।	You should listen.
मुझको बुरी फ़िल्में नहीं देखनी चाहिये।	I should not watch bad films.

Note that like the "supposed to" construction introduced in Lesson 9.6, if the verb has a direct object, the verb can change to reflect the gender and number of that object. Compare the following:

मुझको ये किताबें	ख़रीदना चाहिये।
मुझको ये किताबें	ख़रीदना चाहियें।
मुझको ये किताबें	ख़रीदनी चाहियें।
मुझको इन किताबों को	ख़रीदना चाहिये।
