6.4 The Infinitive as a Noun

The infinite form of the verb can function like a masculine Type I noun, where it becomes a "gerund" or a verbal noun (e.g. singing, walking, buying):

مجھے گانا پسںد ہے۔

I like singing.

جلدی کھانا اَچّھا نہیں ہے۔

Eating quickly is not good.

When the infinitive is followed by a postposition, it must change into oblique.

-آپ سے مِلنے کے بعد

"After meeting you"

-تم کو دیکھنے میں

"In seeing you"

یہ جگہ گھومنے کے ِلیے اچھی ہے۔

This place is good for walking.

کھانا کھانے کے بعد ہم پانی پیتے ہیں۔

After eating food we drink water.
