  6.4 The Infinitive as a Noun  

The verb "to be" has a very easy past form:

 

تھا

[he] was

masculine singular

تھے

[they] were

masculine plural

تھی

[she] was

feminine singular

تھیں

[they] were

feminine plural

 

The past of ہونا is used as the auxiliary verb in the following two verb tenses: the past imperfect and the past progressive.
