Parts of the day
The parts of the day
are:
|
From
sunrise to 10 AM |
|
From
10 AM to 3 PM (hot hours) |
|
From
3 PM to 5 PM |
|
From
5 PM to sunset |
|
रात |
From
sunset to sunrise |
The postposition
को is used to express part of the day:
Thus to say "in the
morning," "in the evening," etc. we put
को after the part-of-day word:
|
को |
in the morning |
|
को |
in the afternoon |
|
in the evening |
|
रात
को |
in the night
(at night) |
Now let’s put
the time and part of day together. Note that there are several ways
of putting the two together:
|
at 12 o'clock
in the afternoon (12 noon) |
|
at 5 o’clock
in the morning (5 AM) |
Sentences:
|
I will go to
the bazaar at 7 o'clock in the evening (7 PM). |
|
She comes back
from school at 3 o'clock in the afternoon (3 PM). |
We may omit
"
को" after the part-of-day
word only if the part-of-day word is followed by an o'clock
expression. For example:
|
" |
Thus there are three
ways to express the time of day and part of day together.
|
1. |
|
3. |
All three mean exactly
the same thing.
