Nouns: singular and plural


 

 

 

 

The plural ending for a noun depends on the gender of the noun and whether it is Type 1 or Type 2. Memorize the chart below:

To make plural:

Masculine nouns: Type 1

Ending in
लड़का, बुन्दा, संतरा

changes into
लड़के, बुन्दे, संतरे

Masculine nouns: Type 2

Not ending in
बन्दर, आदमी, घर

no change
बन्दर, आदमी, घर

Feminine nouns: Type 1

Ending in
लड़की, पूरी, चूड़ी

changes into इयाँ
लड़कियाँ, पूरियाँ, चूड़ियाँ

Feminine nouns: Type 2

Not ending in
औरत, दुकान, माता

add एँ
औरतें, दुकानें, माताएँ
