How do you
express the possessive of a proper noun (for example: "Sita's book",
"Ram's store")?
To construct the possessive of a proper
noun, add का,
के, or की
after the noun (just like the apostrophe "s" in English).
Examples:
|
Singular |
Plural |
Masculine (Type 1) |
सीता का
संतरा |
सीता के
संतरे |
Masculine (Type 2) |
सीता का
फल |
सीता के
फल |
Feminine (Type 1) |
सीता की
रोटी |
सीता की
रोटियाँ |
Feminine (Type 2) |
सीता की
दुकान |
सीता की
दुकानें |
Again, का / के / की
agree with the thing possessed, not with the
possessor.
(का / के / की
are
postpositions. For more about postpositions, see Lesson 5).
